After some deliberation, I have decided to blog about the story and process of building my Caterham Seven.

I have already ordered my car – 310s with the larger chassis, and it is due for delivery in early May 2018. Having test driven a few, I really loved the engine in the 310 – it just felt lovely and revvy and responsive.

The car I went for is pretty much the same as the one on the Caterham website – red with white stripes and the Orcus anthracite alloy wheels. However, when I went to view the red on the car, it looked more maroon to my eyes, so I opted for “Competition Red”, which is a pearlescent red.

Building my own car is something that I have wanted to do for several years, and I am both excited and a little nervous too. Whilst I can do a decent range of DIY jobs, I have never undertaken a project of this size! My hope is to build it pretty much by myself (mostly to prove to myself I can do it!), but with a little help with the engine ect…

The plan would be to build most (if not all) of the car during my 3 month sabbatical. Looking at the manual and blogs, that should be lots of time – but the sabbatical isn’t just for the car, so we will see …..
